It was after the destruction of Othmani Caliphate that lead to the division of its land as war booty among conquerors, after World War 2, when Britain and allies grew weaker they decided to withdraw from these lands and shift from direct to neo-colonialism. West installed brutal dictatorships in Arab World particularly, whilst democracies in other. Today after plethora of tyrannies people in Arab world stood against oppressors and demanded for an alternate, now West is trying to sell them democracy for continuing its onslaught, as they haven’t tasted it yet.
In the aftermath of brutal killings in Iraq, Afghanistan and silence on Israel atrocities, leading states have demonstrated their intentions with democracy starkly, where will of people is vulnerable. Recently, Obama extended the controversial Patriot Act to which he commented in 2007, in the run-up to his presidential campaign, “No more illegal wire-tapping of American citizens. No more national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime.” One may also question his intentions behind saying to his people that, “World after OBL is peaceful and secure”. There are serious questions against democracy that why did Bush invaded Afghanistan without the will of House of Commons? And Obama repeated this in case of Libya. Series of tremors in face of police onslaught against student’s protest in the wake of fee hike in Britain and attack on a member of US congress from Arizona in January, are very few examples how democracy is unable to set an example. Ban on veil in France where very few women wear veil and ban on minarets on Switzerland, where legislators campaigned that “they look like rockets” manifest that this system has loose foundations where through majority of legislators one can turn white into black and black in to white. It is democracy in question when legislators legalize the interference of U.S in the guise of strategic co-operation & legalize drones; it is again in question when NRO remains the law of country. The demand for change hasn’t only swept Arabs and Pakistanis but also Indians where 17000 farmers committed suicide last year but capitalists double their money with rising GDPs and growing gap between rich and poor. This is what Mike Prysner an Iraq War veteran feels when he says, “The enemy is a system that wages war when it’s profitable. The enemy is the CEO who lays us off our jobs when it’s profitable; it’s the insurance companies who deny us health care when it’s profitable; it’s the banks who take away our homes when it’s profitable. Our enemies are not 5000 miles away, they are right here at home.”
Uprising in Arab World and problems of Pakistan need an alternate system with an alternate viewpoint. A poll conducted by US based center has shown that majority of Egyptians demand ruling by Quran, demand of people here is no different and this is what Islam provides to us with Khilafah.
