Karachi: Muhammad Asif, the World Amateur Snooker Championship winner who had made successful wins in Doha and Bulgaria bringing name to the country has been deprived of the promises made to him by the government for awarding him Rs. 5 lacs and a home in the Ashiana Housing Scheme. However like other promises, government once again left the winner strangled in his reward.
The 31 year old snooker player had won the amateur championship in Bulgaria and since last year has been looking for financial assistance to get into professional circuit. Asif has also won the Asian Snooker Championship the following year where he defeated Irani and Indian players held in Qatar on May 29.
Asif hails from Faisalabad and belongs from a deprived family. Before leaving for the championship in Bulgaria he took loans and after his return he has been pleading the government to award him the cash and the residence that had been made on his win but all his efforts up till now seem to end up in smoke since the government pays deaf ear to the request.
However, through media one of the generous man, Nadeem Omar , chief executive of Omar Associates announced to help the winner by providing a worth cash of $ 20, 000 as reward for the title he has earned. Omar has also been finance investor in Pakistan cricket.

Media presented good words for the Punjab Chief minister for presenting the award for the deserving talented player but after the end of the championship the government has forgotten its promise as an unsaid and broken one as always.
