In the current era, when our hectic life is bundled with much different problems and hurdles came our way every day or other, the general public is now been deprived of the fundamental necessities of life due to economic crisis and political instability in our country. On the other hand, the busy lives have made it much difficult to communicate with our relatives or friends as it was in the past.
The Telecom companies are no accountable in increasing the calling rates that are going higher and higher with the passage of time due to which communicating via calling is also quite difficult for a man who hardly makes his both ends meet, working tirelessly throughout the day.
So now, for the majority the easiest, quickest and most importantly the cheapest means of communication is SMS (Short Messaging System) where there is leisure to both Time and Money and that is the main reason why it is so popular among the people especially the youth.
At present, SMS packages are available far too cheaply compare to the calling packages and cater for long conversations in a little sum of money. Companies like Ufone, Telenor, Mobilink, Warid etc are providing cheap SMS packages to its customers.
In the past, this service was popular to the youngsters only but now its usage is constantly increasing among children, old fellows, women and other age groups. Messaging, texting, chatting has now become a key necessity for the mobile users. But the discussion doesn’t seems to end here, keeping in mind the rapid success and excess of mobile messages different organizations and groups have used this service much effectively to publicize and advertise their products among the masses through this inexpensive means of communication.
This service is also being used in receiving public comments, feedbacks and opinions about any TV show, voting, opinion polling , surveys are also being carried through the SMS’s without any sort of trouble.
If you are too far away from your loved ones, relatives or friends then not to worry, its just too easy and simple; pick up the cell, select new message option and text what you want to wish, say or express. It’s just a matter of time!
If you take a look at the recent past, the same parents, elder brothers and sisters who used to pass judgments over our excessive use of mobile and questioning why are we so addicted to our cell phones? Now themselves ask us to message someone to know are they all fine? When are they coming? Etc. Not only this, even now our teachers inform us about cancellation of classes and things like that through messages.
With the passage of time, this joyful service has also become essential for us. But as every invention has some merits and demerits, the same thing happened with this useful service. Some people have started using it in a negative way, propagating vulgarity and immorality through it. But one cannot blame the technology primarily as it purely depends upon the users to make use of it either positively or negatively.
If we talk about the positive aspects of this service, we can easily conclude that mobile SMS have made the communication a lot easier and quicker and without any doubt the only thing that is easy on the pocket in Pakistan is SMS.
On the other hand, SMS service has resulted in spreading and propagating rumors in the society creating disbelief and mistrust among the individuals, groups or communities.
But again, it simply depends upon the will of the people and we must not use it in a negative way and should use it in a productive manner favoring both the public and the society.
