Tel Aviv: An Israeli firm has startup claims to have developed a technique to recharge a mobile phone in just 30 seconds. The StoreDot Company has researched and successfully tested it on Samsung’s Galaxy 4 at Tel Aviv University. The firm disclosed the first demonstration at Microsoft’s Think Next conference in Tel Aviv University.
The company says it has used a special type of material through which cell battery will charge in just 30 seconds. However the prototype of this product has shown, the prototype charger is presently the size of a laptop charger, but the enterprise says it has a parallel engineering effort aimed at reducing its size.
The charger is still a prototype, which means it will be some time before it is commercially available, as it relies on bio-organic Nano dots, tiny conductive crystals that help enable rapid charging. Managing battery power can be the most annoying part of owning a smart phone as phone batteries typically last less than a day.
“We’re working to improve the time to allow the user to have a full charge the whole day, not just two or three hours and we are also trying to shrink the size of the battery itself,” said Doron Myersdorf, CEO and cofounder of StoreDot.
The company hasn’t revealed exactly how much the charger might cost, only that it will retail for twice the amount of a typical charger. The team is now motivated on improving their prototype, but is planning to work on other related usages of these batteries, like laptop computers and electric cars.
