Few days back, senior adviser to the chief minister Sirdar Zulfiqar Khosa said that Raiwind estate of the Sharif family does not fall in the category of farmhouses being taxed by the Punjab government from the next year 2012.
According to him, “the Sharif family live there. That is their residence. The government is taxing those farmhouses of the rich that are not built for residential purposes and that they visit on weekends. ”
But now Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced that his family will pay tax on farmhouse
The Raiwind estate is in the highest slab of the farmhouse tax.
The farmhouse tax has been proposed in accordance with covered area. Rupees ten will be charged per square foot of the covered area per annum on a farmhouse with such area between 5,000 to 7,000sq ft; Rs15 with covered area between 7,001 to 10,000sq ft; and Rs20 with covered area of more than 10,000sq ft.
According to sources almost 5-6 million tax will paid by Sharif family of Raiwind estate which is spread over hundreds of acres.
