ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejects the promotion of 80 government officials from grade 20 to 21. The up gradations were maneuvered in the period of former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s term.
Orya Maqbool Jan, who is a famous renowned columnist and Archives Punjab Secretary, made a petition on 11 March 2013, demanding to promote him on the basis of merit and he asserted only bureaucrats associated with governing political parties gained promotions.
On the basis of which in May 2013, Supreme Court has pursued answer from the establishment secretary and Central Selection Board (CSB) chairman over the appeal concerning the political elevation of senior officers by the PPP administration.
Finally the Supreme Court has rejected the political promotions; in contrast there is no update of petition for promotion of those who deserve promotions on merit. However the politically maneuvered promotions are made null and void. The decision of Supreme Court is welcomed by many in the civil societies.
