In a new decision Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have set a minimum price of Rs. 200 for new cellular SIMs in Pakistan. It is being reported that the new prices will be enforced from today.
[junkie-alert style=”green”] A PTA spokesperson reported to a news media the now onwards no telecommunication operator will be allowed to sell SIMs below the decided price of Rs.200. [/junkie-alert]
The decision was made after observing that most cellular networks were offering SIMs for free with minutes and messages, which resulted in huge number of dormant SIMs because customers discarded the SIMs after using the free minutes and messages.
Now cellular networks will offer more free minutes and messages to attract customers because they cannot reduce the price of the SIMs.
Sales of cellular networks were also reduced after PTA imposed the biometric verification system before issuance of SIMs, many SIMs were not verified and were blocked after repeated deadlines.
