Karachi: Pakistan Hockey team midfielder Waseem Ahmad has finally decided to resign from the International Hockey arena, calling it a day after seventh position play off match against South Korea at the London Olympics, local newspaper reported Friday.
“I have decided to announce my retirement after a career spanning over 16 years,” Waseem, told newspaper but shows determination to play for his departmental team.
He said that he had already informed the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Chief Coach Akhtar Rasool and Coach Khwaja Juniad about his decision as he did not want to be sidelined by the PHF.
Waseem, 35, made his international debut in 1996 during the Champions Trophy held in Chennai and has played 377 International matches till now.
However, he expressed regrets over not naming any major title to his credit and said that unfortunately Pakistan team could not be turned into a match-winning side during my career.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Hockey team would return home on 15th August after securing 7th Position in London Olympics 2012.
