A clipping of Shahid Afridi’s interview was broadcasted on one of the Private TV channels that showed Afridi quoting that Pakistani Women have great taste in their hands and they cook very tasty food. Afridi has defended his statement that has provoked criticism by various female based organizations about the image associated with women.
Afridi had earlier stated that his statement was taken out of context and that he was a great supported of the women’s cricket team as well. But this didn’t stop Nuzhat Kidvai, a human rights activist, from criticizing Afridi and declaring him as foolish and a misogynist. She said that though Afridi’s statement should not be ignored, but it was also irrelevant to give such importance to his statement as he was not in a position to dictate policies. If that was the case, then the approach would have been quite different.
Nuzhat Kidvai expressed her remorse on such sentiments of a cricketer who was himself a father of three daughters. She said that no Pathan man had any right to say anything against women, until they stand by women and condemn the inhuman act of ‘Wani’.
Afridi has claimed that this attempt to revoke criticism was done to tarnish his reputation.
