Many muslims from around the world think that the month of Safar is unlucky or it is a heavy month during which we should not travel, start a new business or organize marriage. But all these beliefs are from pre-Islam era and no scholar among the muslims endorse such views.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “The Prophet said, No Adha (i.e. no contagious disease is conveyed to others without Allah’s permission); nor (any evil omen m the month of) safar; nor Hama” (Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 71, Number 665)
Mufti Tariq Masood, a renowned scholar also gave a sermon explaining that there is nothing unlucky or bad about the month of safar. If anyone suffers any loss in the month of Safar than it is not because of the month because many other people suffer losses in other months.
Advocate Faiz Ahmed also explained about the misconceptions about the month. He explained how the myth that Safar is an unlucky month.
Similarly Mufti Akmal also rejected that this month comes with bad omen. He said that it’s a month just like any other month and all things associated with this month are innovations which has no base in Quran & Sunnah.
Maulana Ilyas Qadri also rejected the misconceptions and said that how can we deny marrying in this month while the marriage of Bibi Fatima & Hazrat Ali (Ra) was held in the month of Safar.
