Swansea: Mamuna Farooq, 27 year-old has won the youngest award winner at the ceremony in which over 10,000 nominations were received across the UK. The British Muslim Awards was held recently at Swansea.
Mamuna Farooq was awarded for her efforts to maintain her Muslim and British values throughout her educational and professorial career. Mamuna Farooq is a solicitor at the Swansea-based law firm Douglas-Jones Mercer in Wales.
Mamuna after receiving the award said: “I felt honored and surprised to have been shortlisted as a finalist and honestly did not expect to receive the Award,” She added: “I would like to congratulate the fellow finalists, especially in the Young Achiever category.”
The young Muslim’s achievement award was also praised by non-Muslim colleagues. In Britain more than 2.5 million people are Muslims and according to a recent report by the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex Muslims in Britain consider themselves British more than their white counterparts.
