Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Amir Muhammad Hussain Mehanti has raised concerns over constitution of core committee for negotiations on local bodies system between only Pakistan People Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). In a statement on Saturday, he said that all the stakeholders of the city should be taken onboard on the issue. He said that only MQM and PPP were not the representatives of Karachi but various other political and religious parties including JI have significant vote bank in the metropolis.
He further said that representatives of JI had chaired the local bodies system of the city twice. He said that senior citizens of city have remembered the services of former Mayor Abdul Sattar Afghani, he said adding that similarly Nematullah Khan had bestowed the city with a new green and clean look and his services were also acknowledged by his ideological rivals.
Mehanti said that court ordered to hold local bodies’ elections within a period of three months, however the government and its allies were busy in sharing of powers and benefits, instead of focusing elections. He further added that the party which was chanting slogans on deprivation of rights, was now eyeing to usurp the rights of others, after being empowered.
He demanded of the government to induct all the political parties and stakeholders of the city in dialogue on local governmental system. He also demanded to ensure the holding of polls as soon as possible
