Islamabad: Naib Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan ex-Senator Prof. Khurshid Ahmad has welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to ensure that the Senators, MNAs and MPAs who did not get their degrees verified could be disqualified for future participation in elections and holding public offices. Prof. Khurshid has also placed on record his appreciation that the Election Commission of Pakistan is serious in screening out bank defaulters and all those persons who have violated clear constitutional provisions contained in Articles 62 and 63.
Prof. Khurshid has further demanded that all those persons who, despite having dual nationality had been in the Parliament and Provincial Assemblies and have now been unseated must not only be debarred from future public positions but should also be tried for perjury, hiding or misrepresenting facts and false declarations. “They must be held accountable, punished under the law and not rewarded by advisor-ships and other lucrative public positions”, he emphasized.
He has also demanded that those who hold dual nationality and are serving in bureaucracy, Foreign Service or any other position sensitive in respect of national security must be identified and properly dealt with under the law. He has further demanded that if any changes are needed in law that too should be done in a transparent manner.
