You must have seen tweets and other social media posts breaking the bad news about the revised K-Electric peak time. Well, rest easy! It’s not true, according to KE.
K-Electric clarifies and reiterates the correct peak times as follows:
From April to October: 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM
From November to March: 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Most Karachiites are burdened by astronomical and progressively increasing electricity bills. There isn’t much we can do about how much KE bills us. But we can take some measures to lower our bills.
15 Practical Tips to Lower Your Electricity Bill
Unplug appliances and electronics: Many devices consume energy, even when turned off or standby mode. Unplug devices that are not in use, like mobile chargers.
Use energy-efficient appliances: When purchasing new appliances, look for appliances that are designed to use less energy and can significantly reduce your electricity consumption over time.
Use natural lighting: Use natural light during the day by opening curtains and blinds. This reduces the need for artificial lighting, thereby reducing electricity usage.
Switch to LED bulbs: LED light bulbs offer superior energy efficiency compared to traditional bulbs and boast significantly longer lifespans.
Optimize cooling and heating: Ensure your home is insulated to prevent drafts and leaks. Seal gaps around windows and doors. Implementing these measures will aid in maintaining a pleasant indoor temperature, which will decrease the burden on your air conditioning systems.
Use fans strategically: Ceiling and portable fans are more energy-efficient than air conditioners. Use them to circulate cool summer air and create a wind chill effect.
Be mindful of phantom loads: Even when not used, devices like phone chargers, gaming consoles, and other electronics can draw power if plugged in.
Use appliances efficiently: Run your dishwasher and washing machine with full loads, as partial loads waste energy. Use the energy-saving modes on appliances whenever possible.
Educate your family members: Remind your family to embrace energy-saving practices, including switching off lights upon leaving a room, taking shorter showers, and refraining from leaving the refrigerator door open for extended periods.
By implementing these tips, you can make a meaningful difference in reducing your electricity bill. Remember, minor changes add up over time and contribute to financial savings and environmental sustainability.
