Washington: US President Barack Obama has signed financial bill of 1.1 trillion $ for the following year, 2014. Out of the total amount, 3 crore 30 lakhs dollar US aid is conditioned to be given on the release of Dr. Shakeel Afridi.
A day back, the US congress passed the bill to prevent shut down. Rs 3 crore and 30 lakh dollars shall be given to Pakistan on condition of handing over Shakeel Afridi to US, which is a clever move by Pakistan’s war on terror partner.
The bill has strict terms and conditions for Pakistan to follow. According to the bill, Pakistan shall make sure that it complies to continuing its efforts with US to combat terrorist activities against militant groups Al-Qaeda, Quetta Shura Taliban, Haqqani network, Lashkar e Tayyiba, Jash e Mohammed and others.
The bill also puts condition on the Pakistan government to ensure not much intervention of the judiciary into politics of the country. The Bill gives authority to the US government to stop aid if Pakistan fails to meet the objectives as stated as per the terms and conditions.
President Obama’s signature on the bill has given leverage to the bill’s importance. Obama said that after Great depression, US has been trying to overcome its financial crisis. Still, a lot needs to be done to recover its losses.
