Slow left arm spinner Danny Briggs took career-best Twenty20 figures as defending champions Hampshire beats Durham by 55 runs in 3rd Quarter-Final of Friends Life t20 at Southampton on Sunday.
Hampshire won the toss and decided to bat first. Hants recovered from having Shahid Afridi run out for a duck without facing a ball to post a competitive 154-6, Neil McKenzie top scoring with 56.
In reply Durham were bowled out for 99 runs. England Lions’ Danny Briggs bagged five and takes his tally to 22 wickets in the tournament. Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi who has come from Karachi to compete in the quarter final also picked two wickets as Hampshire marched into the Friends Life t20 semi-finals.
Meanwhile in the 1st Quarter-Final at Grace Road on Saturday Leicestershire reached the last four stage by an incredible chase against Kent.
Leicestershire won the toss and send Kent to bat. Pakistan’s former all rounder Azhar Mahmood top scored with 91 as Kent made 203-3. Abdul Razzaq picked one wicket for Leicestershire.
Needing 204 for win, England former wicket keeper Paul Nixon came in to bat when the Foxes were faltering on 128-5 after James Taylor (22) and Andrew Mcdonald (53) fell in the space of four balls.
But Nixon and Abdul Razzaq (27 from 11 balls) put on 48 off 21 balls as Leicestershire got over the winning line with 4 balls to spare.
Both the semi finals and final of the tournament will played on August 27 at Edgbaston.
