Karachi: World football’s governing body, FIFA on Thursday permitted Muslim women to wear a specially-designed Hijab headscarf while playing the sport, making a clear path for the Muslim women players to play in the mega event.
Earlier, the Hijab was banned by FIFA in 2007 owing safety precautions, believing that wearing Hijab during the game could cause injury to the players if it is pulled.
However, the new designs introduced by FIFA vice-president Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan eliminated the potential risk of a serious injury.
Meanwhile, Prince Nawaf bin Faisal who is the President Saudi Olympic Committee has made it clear to the women representing Saudi Arabia in the London Olympics 2012 that they have to strictly abide by the Sharia Laws during the games.
