A war ship which was loaded with explosive bombs was travelling from Britain to France when it was destroyed near the port of Kent.
If explosion occurs this will be the biggest non-nuclear explosion in the world because the ship at the time of sinking contained 1400 tones of explosive materials and bombs, which were being sent to aid the war which was being fought in France against Germany.
The ship ‘SS Montgomery’ is now monitored each year so that no ship coming or going from the port accidents trigger the explosion. The chances of the explosion are rare and all attempts to remove explosives have failed. After 71 years the explosive bombs are still underneath the sea.
The government expense for monitoring the wreck is $ 50,000 each year, yet they are ready to monitor it to save and protect hundreds of lives.
There are multiple signs seen when the tide is low which indicate that it’s a dangerous area, the government also established a protective zone of 500m.
