Dengue claims six more lives in Lahore

The Dengue fever continues to play havoc with the lives of residents of Punjab as six more persons died during last 24 hours. Four including a police constable were died in Mayo hospital Lahore on Wednesday.

 

The death toll in the disease has climbed to 124 with fresh deaths, while several others were tested positive for the deadly virus.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed hospitals authorities to collect the data of dengue patients on daily basis from hospitals of province.
70 years old Gulzar Bibi resident of Bilal Gunj and 26 years old Irshad resident of Lohari Gate were died at Mayo hospital, whereas police constable Fayaz of PS Lutan road and a nurse Asma Bibi died at general hospital.

The total number of dengue patients in Punjab reached 11054 and out of these 9787 are in Lahore. So far 10583 dengue patients have been cured and discharged out of which 9490 belong to Lahore. At present 1132 patients are under treatment at different hospitals of the province and out of these 895 are in Lahore.

The authorities have directed for delivering daily lectures in academic institutions to create awareness about the deadly disease.
Dengue epidemic is out playing havoc with human lives, as four patients died of the disease nudging death toll up to 110 in the metro polis.
Epidemic which sprang up one and half months back could not be curbed with government and private hospitals ever crowded with patients as well as people standing in queues for test.
However, medical experts said it was just panic that affected citizens; in fact, most patients are returning home fully cured.
Punjab government focuses more on hospitals in provincial capital; while, hospitals in city’s suburbs are being disregarded.
Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Muridke has dengue ward but it is locked. Patients, despite being diagnosed of the disease, are not allowed admission to the ward. Instead, they are referred to Lahore hospitals.
Meantime, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif directed to formulate a system to garner data of dengue patients in the province. He also directed to conduct awareness programs at schools on daily basis.
Provincial government has said that ten thousand patients have been recovered, adding that patients number has been decreased in dengue departments of hospitals.
