Complete shutter down protest observed on Friday on the call of Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
He had called for a general strike on November 25 to protest the continued detention of political activists including over 50 minors, fresh spurt of arrests in Sopore, Islamabad and Srinagar and torture and maltreatment of inmates at Kot Balwal and Ambphala jails in Jammu.
Geelani on Friday reiterated his strike call urging people to observe complete shutdown on Friday against ‘detention of political activists, arrest and detention of minors and torture of Kashmiri detainees in Kot Balwal and Amphala jails in Jammu.’
He appealed to Amnesty International to take serious note of the “detainees’ plight” and use its good offices for their immediate release.
In a statement, Geelani alleged that one of the senior workers of Tahreek-e-Hurriyat, Muhammad Yousuf Lone, had been harassed by Kupwara police and condemned continued detention of the two sons of Abdul Gani Bhat of Sopore.
“Hurriyat will not remain silent over the atrocities being committed on Kashmiri detainees in jails and detention centers which include 50 minors,” the statement said.
The statement said more than a thousand Kashmiris were currently lodged in different jails in and outside the Valley.
