Karachi: A considerable increase in bread prices have been witnessed since following year. Market survey reveals the price hike figure as 18 %. In January, 9 % increase in prices had been observed in all range of breads, occurring in various sizes and packaging by the manufacturers.
An average of 5- 9 % price hike has been observed since the past two months. The fresh price list released on Sunday, points clearly to the escalated price hike. According to the new prices, medium sized bread costs up to Rs 63 while large bread is available at Rs 80. Previously in September, they were sold at Rs 60 and Rs 75 respectively. Price of the mini packs have underwent to 1 Rs difference, from Rs 25 to Rs 26. While, price for the small pack is the same i.e. Rs 45.
Compared to the last prices when the breads were sold with prices reserved as Rs 61, Rs 44 and Rs 26 respectively difference of 3,2 and 1 rupee is seen. The new prices for the ranges as Rs 64, Rs 46 and Rs 27. Fruit buns prices have also increased by 1 Rs from Rs 24 to Rs 25 and Rs 14 to Rs 15 respectively. Similarly, Rs 2-3 changes in the prices are done for other bread related products, including hot dog bread prices, cut burger and burger bun.
Industrial Bread Association, member, Sheikh Haroon Iqbal said that the increased tariffs on utilities, production cost and the escalation in price hikes have added up to revising the price list. He however insisted that the changes observed are not in accordance to the total cost expenditure of the products. ‘As it could adversely affect the sales volume’ he stated supporting his words.
