Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that the accord reached at the APC organized by the ANP was a repetition of the resolutions unanimously adopted by the parliament long ago and there was nothing new in it. In his address at the Friday congregation at Mansoora mosque, he said that for the last five years, the ANP had been in the government when the blood of the Pashtuns was shed and drone attacks continued, but it remained a silent spectator and instead supported the US in its war against Islam and the Muslims. How was it that now when the government was on its way out, the ANP had all of a sudden thought of the need for a dialogue with the Taliban for peace?
The JI Ameer further said that the entire nation was in favour of dialogue with the Taliban, it would like to know what reservations the government and the armed forces had on this score. He said that the people were tired of lawlessness and terrorism and they wanted an end to terrorism and restoration of peace. However, the rulers were still trying to advance the US agenda in disregard of the national interests. Perhaps, that was why they were not ready to set up a care taker government.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that the MQM had completely cornered the PPP and President Zardari was a tool in the MQM’s hands. He said President Zardari was fully responsible for the bloodshed in Karachi and Sindh for the last five years. And even if the PPP now wanted to break away with the MQM, it won’t succeed. He said Zardari could have got rid of the MQM through implementation of the Supreme Court order for fresh delimitation of constituencies in Karachi and verification of the voters lists through the army. But unfortunately, Zardari had not extended support in the enforcement of the constitution and the law in Karachi only due to the MQM’s fear, because of which the situation in the port city remained unchanged.
Stating that the PPP-MQM-ANP troika had completely paralyzed the country. He said that in order to put the country back on the path to the constitution and to restore peace, talks with the Taliban must be started forthwith, the assemblies be dissolved and a care taker set up must be announced immediately. At the same time, full support should be extended to the Election Commission for ensuring fair, free and transparent elections.
