Awami National Party (ANP) has announced that they will celebrate Independence Day of Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 15th August by hoisting the national flag at the highest point in Peshawar.
The rival country of Pakistan and immediate neighbour India celebrates its Independence Day on 15th August.
ANP leader and provincial Secretary Information Arbad Tahir said that said that due to security arrangements, the hoisting of the flag was delayed till Monday, 15th August.
He further said that the function may be extended till 16th or 17th August if security agencies fail to give security clearance.
Kashmiris will be observing India’s Independence Day as ‘Black Day’.
PML-N Spokesman Ahsan Iqbal criticized the decision and said that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani should immediately take notice and should order directives of cancelation of celebrations on 15th August.
Also, PPP’s leader Nabil Gabool has requested the ANP leadership to change the date of celebrations.
