The Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar stated that the government cannot be a part of such cooperation of allied forces in result of which the sovereignty and security of the county would come on stake, adding that the steps taken against NATO are not for publicity but for the protection of sovereignty. She said that in the briefing of defence committee it was informed that the Pakistani check post were targeted but there was not any violation of Aerial territory of Pakistan by NATO.
The committee raised the question, if the redlines were fixed then why the attacks are continued by violating the boundaries of Pakistan, while responding to the question Foreign Minister could not give any clear answer. The Foreign minister also could not give satisfactory answers regarding the resignation of former Pakistani ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani on the issue of secret memo.
She said that former ambassador resigned for a fair and transparent investigation and there is no record in the foreign office regarding the secret memo; meanwhile she said that government of Pakistan have no intention to take any legal action against the newspaper and Mansoor Ijaz because there is no clear name of Pakistani official in the article.
She said that without complete investigation no body can be held nominated as responsible, adding that the ambassadors are working according to the directions of embassies and the foreign office is monitoring the progress of its ambassadors.
Senator S M Zafar has said that the facts revealed till now, according to them Hussain Haqqani can not take any step without any support, adding that it is very serious issue and Pakistan army was in the position of defence after May 2 incident, then why the army poses threat to any body in this situation. Senator Abbas Afridi said that conspiracy against Pakistani institutions have been plotted in United States, adding that there is some thing wrong regarding the secret memo. He said that the fear of unrest and disintegration in the country and the attack on border after the issue of secret memo is meaningful.
Senator Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has said that prime minister and president are committed for investigation and the facts revealed after the reports of committee or commission and this matter is also have been brought to the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court is not an investigation forum, the prime minister has handed over the issue to the parliamentary committee on national security and the committee has the authority to summon any body, he added. PPP Senator Islam-ud-Din Sheikh said that the credibility of Mansoor Ijaz should also be reviewed, adding that he is not an American official but the agent of CIA.
He said that it is self-made story made with a preplanned conspiracy, adding that CIA did not have good intentions regarding the civilian and military institutions. PPP Senator Jahangir Badar has said that proliferation conspiracies for obtaining interest had become be a routine of modern world, while praising the progress of foreign office he said that Pakistan have a lot of enemies all over the world.
He said that the committee should take notice of the statements of the former foreign minister over the issue of safety of nuclear weapons. Professor Khurshid Ahmad said that the issue of nuclear safety is very sensitive and he raised the issue of non-implantation of the protocol and regulation for the meeting with foreigners.
The Chairman Committee Salim Saifullah khan said that it is common among the world regarding Pakistan that the investigations of committees and commissions are very weak and no body knows about the inquiries. He said that no body has told something about the Mehran base incident and second May incident of Abbotabad, adding that the details of resignation of Hussain Haqqani should be made public.
Hina Rabbani Khar has said that the foreign office is not involved in the issue of memo orally or written form and the foreign office did not have any record regarding the secret memo, adding that the foreign office did not have luxury to enter into the gray areas.
She said that some people had given the statements that Hussain Haqqani would not return to Pakistan, adding that we want supremacy of parliament and parliament has raised the issue of secret memo. Parliament is not acting as rubber stamp to make any political or army official wrong over any issue.
She said that the president is the chief of national security team, adding that the stance of military and politicians are unanimous about the 2nd May incident and the foreign office has given a clear cut policy.
Government was also reviewing its relations with US and coalition forces, she said. “We are a sovereign state and we will not allow our sovereignty to be tainted. Pakistan role in war on terror be not overlooked”, she stressed.
