Sindh Government has handed over Karachi’s biggest park ‘Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim” to property developer Bahria Town on Thursday. The park which is usually called Bin Qasim Park is city’s largest park spread on an area of 130 acres.
Previously the park was under the authority of Karachi Municipal Administration but in November last year the provincial government took over the park and now it has been given to Bahria Town for a period of 10 years.
Sindh Local bodies minister Jam Khan Shoro said that the parks are being handed over to save the funds of government; he also said that the park will not be used for commercial purpose.

Jam Khan Shoro failed to explain how it will save government funds while even after the handover the salaries of the staff will be paid by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
Mayor of Karachi Wasim Akhtar said he was not consulted by the provincial government regarding the matter. MQM also rejected the move and alleged that it was handed over with the condition that the park will be used by Bahria Town for commercial purpose.
Bin Qasim Park is situated in the same area where Bahria Icon Tower is being constructed. After completion it will become Pakistan’s tallest structure.
