NEW DELHI: Yakub Memon is hanged in India who was accused of financing for Mumbai attacks. According to a local newspaper, a divisional bench of Indian Supreme Court heard the case till late night on Wednesday. The lawyers of Yakub Memon appealed to the court to delay his hanging sentence for 14 days.
The division bench of Indian Supreme court rejected the lawyers’ appeal and maintained Yakub’s death sentence and he was hanged later in Nagpur jail. It is pertinent to mention here that earlier Yakub Memon also appealed to the Indian president for clemency but it was rejected.
According to Indian media, Yakub Memon was accused of financing for Mumbai attacks in 1993 in which 257 people were killed and over 1000 were injured. According to an Indian newspaper, Yakub Memon was hanged at 6:30 in the morning. He was 53 years old.
The newspaper writes that the dead body of Yakub Memon will be given to his family on the condition that they will not use his dead body for any protest.
