The increasing trend of fashion in Pakistan has promoted fashion related events such as catwalks, fashion shows and exhibitions that further heighten the craze for fashion. At first, people embraced the new wave of fashion as it provided a break from the monotony of daily wear and formal wear.
The fashion gurus also realized the need to expand their work and introduced innovative styles while staying within the limits of the cultural attire. Fashion shows were organized to promote fashion among the public that further led to the collaboration of these designers with the various fabric companies as well. But gradually the fashion industry started to deviate from the cultural boundaries and their fashion shows were in clear violation of the traditional and cultural values imposed in the society through attire.
The recent fashion show in Faisalabad organized by the Greece International fabrics was one such example that was exhibiting vulgarity in the name of fashion. A dance segment was also organized in the show. This event was surely not organized to promote fashion for the common public, but was an opportunity to display vulgarity, as the designs worn by the models were revealing and too bold for the eastern taste.
This is not the first case that has been brought to notice. Several other fashion shows have been organized to promote westernized clothing and as an attempt to influence the younger generation by the western style clothing, which are absolutely against the principles of our society. These events should be discouraged and defamed before it becomes a norm.
