Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has been convicted in a contempt of court case by a 7 members Supreme Court Bench, here on Thursday. Supreme Court session dismisses immediately after the conviction and the punishment of prime Minister ends.
SC bench reads out punishment to PM Gilani, stating “PM Gilani committed Contempt of Court”. Prime Minister Gilani is convicted on violation of the article 63 1G.
According to the details the Judges left the room immediately after the hearing while PM remains standing in the court room. It is for the first time in the world that a Prime Minister has been convicted in the contempt of court case.
A 7 member SC bench consists of 3 judges from Sindh. He is been convicted for not writing letter to Swiss government after a regular orders and warnings by the Supreme Court same bench.
PM while talking to media outside the SC held the view that he has not received justice from the court. The decision is inappropriate and we had sought justice from the Supreme Court. “Decision of appeal to be made by legal aides”, he added.
According to the hearing as per Article 63-1G, the PM has been disqualified as a member of the Parliament and if he still continue to hold the office, it would be the first time in history the Premier holds the office after he has been convicted by the Courts.
Article 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan states about the disqualifications for membership of Parliament, Article 63-1G reads as,
“he is propagating any opinion, or acting in any manner, prejudicial to the Ideology of Pakistan, or the sovereignty, integrity or security of Pakistan, or morality, or the maintenance of public order, or the integrity or independence of the judiciary of Pakistan, or which defames or brings into ridicule the judiciary or the Armed Forces of Pakistan.”
