Karachi: Jamaat-e Islami (JI) has finalized its arrangements for a protest sit-in at the Police head office on Friday. The sit-in has been scheduled in condemnation to unconstitutional acts of the intelligence agencies for kidnapping citizens without intimation to any court of law. In this regard, JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui has said that the sit-in would not cease to continue until the government announces the missing citizens have been recovered and produced before court of law.
JI has time and again approached law enforcement agencies regarding kidnapped JI workers and office-bearers but to no avail. The agencies had kidnapped on gunpoint Ajmal Waheed and his brother Osama Waheed on their arrival to Karachi International Airport from Islamabad. It has been 6 months since they were kidnapped and the intelligence agencies have shared no information about the kidnapped JI workers and office-bearers.
Further, the intelligence agency had taken Maaz Farooqui on gunpoint at the time of his departure to Islamabad from Cantonment Railway Station and yet after a month has passed of his abduction but no trace of him is available. The personnel of the intelligence agencies had at that time told the parents of Farooqui that they would shortly release him but now they are denying of any trace of him, said Siddiqui adding that all the kidnappings were made extra-constitutionally as the kidnapping intelligence agencies did not show any legal document, court order or warrant for the arrest of JI workers and office-bearers.
JI has time and again made it clear that the law enforcement agencies could take any citizen into the custody but only according to existing provisions of the law but unfortunately the intelligence agencies have been operating above the constitutions and they have established their own state within the state, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The time has come that the law enforcement agencies must act in strict accordance to law of the country and their extra-constitutional acts would not be tolerated further.
He said that JI has staged series of protest demonstrations in the city in order to attain government’s due response in this regard but despite all democratic steps the government had failed to ensure safe recovery of the kidnapped citizens. The protest sit-in at the Police head office would not be a traditional one because JI is fully determined to see the law is implemented with full force in the country and no one is allowed to subjugate country’s law by his self-defined acts. The sit-in would continue till all the kidnapped workers and citizens are safely recovered and produced in court of law, vowed Siddiqui.
