United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday renewed calls on Pakistan to eliminate safe havens that militants use to launch attacks into Afghanistan, while calling for better Pak-US ties.
This she said while talking to media persons in Washington, adding that “We’re certainly making clear that we want to see an end to safe havens and any kind of support from anywhere for terrorists inside Pakistan,”
“And we also want to continue to work to put our relationship (with Pakistan) on a stronger footing,” the chief US diplomat said as US-Pakistani ties appeared worse than ever.
She said despite the “serious questions” that Washington has about Pakistan’s support for militants, “we have a lot of interests that are in common, most particularly the fight against terrorism.”
Meanwhile the Spokesperson of US State Department said that the cooperation of Pakistan is necessary for the security of United States.
The spokesperson in a press briefing said that the relations with Pakistan is complex but very important, adding that Pakistan is an important ally in war against terrorism, adding that he is hopeful that cooperation with Pakistan would continue.
He said that we hold open and result oriented dialogues with Pakistan, adding that for an effective step against Al-Qaeda and success in the region the Pak-US cooperation is very necessary.
