It is a good step by Election Commission Pakistan to launch of door-to-door verification exercise of Electoral Rolls from 8th August 2011. This will help in checking all the voters are valid or not. As now ECP with support of NADRA is making electoral rolls the error will be minimised.
It will also be appreciated if in the next elections the votes will be casted through electronic voting system like India even Election Commission has said that it will propose to parliament a new law for introduction of electronic voting in future elections in the country. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has also has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking direction to the Election Commission (EC) to introduce electronic voting machines in the future general elections.
ECP can consider a POS (Point of sale) like machine where CNIC is swiped and then the voter can cast its vote. After the first swipe of CNIC the machine should register its vote and then no duplicate vote can be casted.
If this POS like machine is used in next election those people who stay at home and does not use their votes (and therefore 30-40% turn out are seen) can also cast their votes. As government can appoint a team which can go from door to door to take the vote of the people and as a result 85-90% people vote will be casted.
The above mentioned suggestions should be considered by the Government, Election Commission of Pakistan and all those political parties who want to see free and fair elections in Pakistan.
