The construction of given fabric(S)
I. Yarn count
II. Linear density
III. GSM (ASTMD 4776) 476
IV. Weave
16×12/107×56 -63’’ (3/1) Drill fabric
Lab conditions:
- 65% RH
- 20 2C?
- GSM CUTTER
- Cut out five equal circles (100mm dia) then weight them.
- GSM=
- 1. Yarn count:
An index of the compactness of a fabric determined by counting the number of warp yarns and filling yarns in 1 square inch (6.4516 square centimeters) of fabric
count systems
There are two systems that are used to indicate the number or count of yarns
- Direct (metric system)
- Indirect (English system)
In direct yarn number system, weight per unit length is specified
In indirect system, length per unit weight is specified
Yarn count method:
- a. Di-section method
Cut 5 squares of one inch on fabric diagonally , then count weft and warp for each square , taking the average of no. of warps and no. of wefts for 5 squares ,we can determine the yarn count through the formula
- b. Pick glass
In this we use the glass which magnifies 1*1 inch area of fabric and then count the picks and ends
- c. Traversing thread count
This can be done by the counting glass , having the microscope having magnification of 4*20.
Place the specimen over it and count the number of ends and picks
- 2. Linear density: ISO 7211-2
For warp count : take out 2 rectangular strips of atleast 50 cm and separate 50 ends
For weft count: take 5 strips or sets of any particular length such that its ends must be 50
- Yarn count =
- Total length of threads= straight length x number of threads
- If gsm cutter is not available then following formulae will be used
- Yarn count= (
- Yarn count=
3. GSM
In this we use GSM cutter .standard used for GSM cutter is ASTMD 4776 or 476.
Cut 5 specimen, weigh it multiply by 100. 100mm is the diameter of GSM cutter which is different for different GSM cutters
CALCULATIONS
- Warp weight =0.190 gm at 20cm
- Weft weight= 0.090 gm at 10 cm
- Yarn count
- For warp= = 95
- For weft= = 90
For Linear density
No of warp | 80 | 82 | 84 | 80 | 81 |
No of weft | 56 | 59 | 58 | 56 | 57 |
Yarn count =
Readings for gsm cutter
S.NO | Readings(weight) |
1 | 1.030 |
2 | 1.040 |
3 | 1.020 |
4 | 1.010 |
5 | 1.025 |
GSM= =102.5
RESULT
Yarn count of the given fabric is 95 for warp and 90 for weft
Linear density is
GSM is 102.5
