SBP explained that the new design of Rs 500 note was introduced in 2006 but these notes which were issued during 2006-2009 were without Optical Variable Ink (OVI) flag. After 2010 the new currency included an OVI flag for easy identification of legal notes and for anti-counterfeiting.
SBP encouraged people to learn about the security features of these currency notes through their official website and requested people not to share unauthentic news which is causing problems in business community.
‘Note Pehchano’ portal was introduced by SBP to educate general public about the difference between genuine and fake currency notes. It features both notes of Rs. 500, with OVI flag and without OVI Flag.
