ISLAMABAD: Yasin Azad baked by PPP and President Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jahangir has been elected new president of the supreme court bar association by defeating Rashid A Rizvi baked by Hamid Khan group. According to unofficial results Yasin Azad polled 939 votes and Rashid Rizvi 860 votes from 2251 voted; Rashid Rizvi grabbed 23 from Abbotabad; meanwhile Yasin Azad polled 12 votes out of 35 polled votes; meanwhile 33 votes were polled by Yasin Azad and 17 Rashid Rizvi from Bahawalpur out of 51 votes which were casted from total 68 votes; meanwhile two were rejected.
According to sources Yasin Azad polled 20 votes from Hyderabad meanwhile Rashid Rizvi secured only two votes from Hyderabad. In 57 votes were grabbed by Yasin Azad and 49 Rashid Rizvi from Multan; meanwhile five were rejected. On the other hand 92 votes from 132 votes were polled in Quetta out of which 59 were secured by Yasin Azad and 33 were by Rashid Rizvi.
Meanwhile 228 votes were casted in Karachi out of which 119 were grabbed by Rashid Rizvi and 102 by Yasin Azad; meanwhile four votes were rejected. 290 Votes Were Casted In Islamabad Out Of Which 147 Were Secured By Rashid Rizvi and 138 by Yasin Azad. Yasin Azad secured 450 votes and Rashid Rizvi grabbed 422 from 872 votes casted in Lahore; meanwhile four votes were rejected; meanwhile 68 votes were grabbed by Yasin Azad and Rashid Rizvi 45 votes from Peshawar
Talking to media persons in Lahore newly elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Yasin Azad said that dignity of the lawyers would be respected and ensured, adding that if anyone would try to commit action against democracy or judiciary of the country I would play my role being the independent representative of the lawyers.
He also thanked the lawyers of the country who helped them to become the present of the bar; meanwhile Yasin Azad also thanked the outgoing president SCBA Asma Jahangir for rendering enormous support during the campaign. About 2251 members of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) casted their votes in the annual SCBA election; meanwhile polling was started at 9 am and continued till 5 pm.
Rasheed A Rizvi and Yaseen Azad, both from Sindh, were in the run for the SCBA President. The People’s Lawyers Forum, the lawyer wing of the PPP and incumbent SCBA President Asma Jahangir were supporting Yasin Azad whereas Rashid Rizvi was bald by Hamid Khan-led Professional Group. Former SCBA presidents Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, also a PPP leader, Qazi Muhammad Anwar and Munir Malik had announced their support for Rizvi.
For the election, nine polling stations were established across the country. The SCBA members casted their votes in Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, Karachi, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Abbotabad and Quetta. In Islamabad/Rawalpindi, 330 voters were registered; Karachi/Hyderabad 300, 200 in Peshawar/Abbottabad, 150 in Multan, 80 in Bahawalpur, 130 in Quetta and 1150 voters are registered in Lahore.
