Due to the persistent haze in the provincial capital of Lahore, the Punjab government has formally announced that work-from-home (WFH) is now required for the entire private sector in Lahore.
The official notification states that, starting on December 7, 2022, and continuing through January 15, 2023, all private offices run by businesses, private sector organizations, and other people within the boundaries of the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation shall be closed on Fridays and Saturdays every week. However, some of their employees may work online.
The change occurs a day after the Punjab government’s attempts to reduce smog in the province, particularly in Lahore, as displeasure expressed by Lahore High Court (LHC).
Justice Shahid Kareem requested from the province administration on Tuesday that three school vacations and mandatory work from home be announced, during the hearing of a case against the harmful smog.
The Punjab government formally announced three weeklong breaks for Lahore’s public and private schools earlier today, despite the current pollution. Up till further notice, there will be three holidays per week.
The School Education Department (SED) has announced that all public and private schools in Lahore will be closed every Friday and Saturday. Sunday holiday will be treated as third day of holiday.
