A question I have been asking myself. Today, I am sharing my thoughts with my friends. We got independence based on a nationalistic approach. Not anymore though! Yahya Khan and Ayub Khan made the first dent in our nationalistic approach.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto after 1971 elections started a national movement to bring everyone together. But he lost steam half-way when he started acting like a king. That was the beginning of polarization. Pakistan started dividing on the basis of provinces. There was no stopping since. We are nation which is dividing itself in smaller slices and continue to do so more rapidly in the past 20 years. Division is now everywhere. Provincial, linguistic, religions, sects, casts, clans, tribes, colors, money, positions, politics, right and left are the few to name. Pie is becoming smaller!
A country where hate is being spread based on the above mentioned grounds, this division is set to further. Resource allocation is becoming more challenging and power struggle is stiffer, end result “Deaths”.
A nation that is recognized on the basis of religion, cast, creed, clans etc can never converge on one point, the point of Pakistaniat is missing. Nations prosper when there is rule of law for everyone, respect for everyone, security of life etc.
Compromises do not build nations. Compromises can only make nations corrupt and inefficient. As a nation, we have been compromising on various issues of wider national interest and damage continues!
We are steaming out on everything that comes our way. Terrorism, diplomacy, literacy, corruption, you name it, things are only getting worst.
A nation that is unable to sleep due to non-availability of power, does not have access to quality health services, where education is a luxury, where justice is not served, where law enforcers are corrupt, where family support systems are falling apart – Alas!
Progress is JUST a DREAM.
