Why Electronic Media Ignored #Mastung? People React on Social Media

Users on social media are criticizing the role of media over #Mastung attack. They questioned why arrest of an ex-PM was given full coverage while ignoring the life of hundreds of people.

At least 130 people lost their lives while 150 were injured when a terrorist attacked a political gathering in Mastung, 60 km away from Quetta. Siraj Raisani, younger brother of ex CM Aslam Raisani was also killed in the attack.

More than 100 innocent humans martyred in #MastungBlast but reporting of convicted Criminal is more important.#Balochistan is never the priority for National Media! #Shame on all Those Journalists who talks hell about equal rights of all Provinces but do nothing. #Mastung pic.twitter.com/67lcwl032w

Death count rises to 125 in #Mastung and we are still talking about Nawaz Sharif..

— Anas ? (@Anasstacius) July 13, 2018

While the death toll in Mastung was increasing due to insufficient medical facilities all media channels in Pakistan were updating the situation in Lahore where people gathered to welcome Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.

Great loss for the people of balochistan

While the mainstream electronic media ignored the suffering of people in Balochistan social media users used different social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & Whatsapp to highlight the issue.

Renowned politicians and personalities also condemned the attack. Some also suspended their political campaign, corner meetings and gatherings to show solidarity with the victims of Mastung.

I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on Balochistan Awami Party’s rally in #Mastung.
My heart goes out to the families of 120+ people who got martyred in this attack.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved families & prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured.

— Dr Farooq Sattar (@DFSMQM) July 13, 2018

I am saddened by the heartbreaking incident that took place in #Mastung today. Every effort must be made in using state resources to bring terrorists and their accomplices to their ultimate end. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased and prayers with the injured.

We are suspending our election campaign for a day in solidarity with #Mastung victims. Im travelling to Quetta to meet affected families of for need assessment of short/long term rehabilitation. Request to all Pol Parties & our supporters to dedicate today to Mastung victims pic.twitter.com/oAdisa7sOh

— M. Jibran Nasir (@MJibranNasir) July 14, 2018

People also questioned the role of security agencies who failed to protect the gathering.

If media will not cover #Mastung massacre, if authorities will not figure out the reason, if forces will not find the culprit, then who is actually responsible for negligent behavior in Baluchistan?

— Iram Ahmad Khan (@Iram_says) July 13, 2018

The real question to ask is who has taken responsibility for #Mastung security disaster & stepped down? Caretakers PM & CM? Chief #ECP? #COAS? Intelligence Chiefs? When will those responsible for public security be brought to book for the brutal mass killings? https://t.co/JvRE3eEoUf

Something wrong with our narrative we need to find out what and resolve it. Years of failure and lapses within security. Ya Allah bless the families who lost their dearest ones aameen #Mastung

— SM Waqas Imam (@smwaqasimam) July 13, 2018

They also criticized politicians who despite of many years of power failed to provide basic medical facilities to the people of Mastung.

This is not the 1st time such a major terror attack has happened in #Mastung but we are hearing same post event issues.Lack of medical facilities, no availability of blood. Casualties number going up. Guess we just don’t want to learn. All Pakistanis matter not just VIP convicts.

— Fakhr-e-Alam (@falamb3) July 13, 2018

Death toll reportedly increased to 80 now. Majority deaths occurring because there are no medical facilities to treat the injured. Welcome to Balochistan. #Mastung
