Barcelona: A voice call service will be added soon by the WhatsApp, the world’s biggest mobile messaging service. This service was launched a few days after the company was purchased by Facebook for $ 19 billion.
The telecom networks are being faced by the growing threat posed by these mobile services such as, WhatsApp, South Korea’s Kakao Talk, China’s WeChat and Israel’s Viber. The telecom services are losing their consumers to these services at an alarming rate, as consumers are attracted towards a free SMS text messaging option.
The Chief Executive Jan Koum stated that the company was seeking to achieve a target of a billion users and so had given the WhatsApp users an option to make calls by the second quarter in the similar manner that they text messages.
Koum also added that WhatsApp aimed at giving the people an affordable means of staying connected irrespective of their location. WhatsApp was able to generate revenue of $ 120 billion from text messaging alone; this new addition would increase its profits by a huge margin.
