Prime Minister of Pakistan is the head of government of Pakistan but do you know salary of current Prime Minister Imran Khan?
Many think the salary of the government members such as Prime Minister, President, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief Justice are secrets while they are not. Public have the right to know the salaries of their officials.
Salary of Prime Minister:
The latest salary slip reveals that the Gross Salary of Pakistani Prime Minister is Rs. 201,574. The PM receives Rs. 196,979 after tax and other deductions. The break up for the salary is as follows:
Basic Salary = Rs. 107,280
Sumptuary Allowance = Rs. 50,000
Ad hoc Relief Allowance = Rs. 21,456
Ad hoc Allowance = Rs. 12,110
Ad hoc Relief All = Rs. 10,728
Gross Salary = Rs. 201,574
What’s more astonishing is the fact that Prime Minister in Pakistan earns less than Senators, MPA’s, Chief Justice and many other government members who are earning greater than the PM who is the head of government in Pakistan.
Many believe that the Prime Minister’s salary should be increased as they believe higher salaries will free him from economic burden of his household and he can concentrate on his official duties. It is also argued that a higher salary for official decreases the risk of corruption and other irregularities.
While others believe that while the minimum wage for labour in Pakistan is just Rs. 15,000. They argue that PM should not increase his salary, especially when the economic situation is not satisfactory. They also believe that it goes against the austerity drive of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Salary of Other Government Members:
To an average Pakistani the salary of Prime Minister is quite excessive but in comparison the salaries of other government officials are many times greater.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan gets salary of Rs. 846,549/month and is also receives Rs. 370,597 as superior judicial allowance and Rs. 68,000 as rent if no official residence is provided. Other benefits include medical allowance, petrol, daily allowance, concessions on tickets and chauffer driven cars.
Similarly a Member of National Assembly (MNA) receives Rs. 150,000 as basic salary and Rs. 173,000 as monthly salary. During each government salary of MNAs are increased.
They receive Rs. 32,000 in other allowances each month and 20 free air tickets which can be used by their family members.
The expected salary of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is believed to be greater than Rs. 900,000. Similarly the salary of President is Rs. 846,550.
