India defeated number one ranked South Africa 3-0 in four match series played in India. India has climed to number 2 in ICC Rankings for Test match. Indian Test team captain Virat Kohli after winning the series said: “Rankings do not matter to me neither do they matter to the particular squad right now.”
“Keep performing well, obviously rankings will go up. You don’t play for that. Obviously it’s an incentive, which we don’t aim for,” He added.
It is not only Virat Kohli many cricketers have said that they don’t care about Rankings. In my point of it is a big question for cricket governing body ICC (International Cricket Council). They must try to educate all the cricketers about Ranking as why it is important.
If ICC fails to do so it should restrict players from commenting on Rankings which many cricket fans take seriously.
