Chinese authorities arrested and sentenced a Uyghur muslim for 10 years after he scolded his son from drinking alcohol before his marriage ceremony.
Tursun Memet, 65 year old man, was arrested on 18 may on charges of religious extremism after police came to know about his remarks on alcohol. After months of investigation and trial he was sentenced for 10 years.
The most devastating part of the story is that he scolded his son ten years ago, and after a decade the police decided to prosecute him on his remakrs. After the sentence the communist party secretary of the area met her wife and said that his husband failed to educate his children properly and his remarks were extremism.
The incident happened in Yengisar which is a county in Kashgar, China’s Xinjiang province where muslims are in majority.
