US Warns IMF Over Pakistan Bailout, People React on Twitter

USA officials are warning IMF over bailout for Pakistan, they believe that American dollars should not be used to bailout Pakistan which is already under debt from China due to China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

This was what US secretary of State Mike Pompeo said while an interview with American channel. He said that ‘There is no rationale for IMF Tax dollars, and associated with that American dollars that are part of the IMF Funding, to bail out Chinese bondholders or China’.

Since 1980’s Pakistan has received funds through 13th IMF funding programmes. According to sources many officials are advising Pakistan’s new leader Imran Khan to request IMF bailout of $12 billion.

Even if Pakistan goes to the IMF for a bailout package, it would be used to service the current debt, not to pay off loans under CPEC which would be repaid over the next 25-30 years. https://t.co/zYM9aSeL2L

Pakistani citizens are reacting differently on the issue. Jalil Abbas Jilani, Former Ambassador of Pakistan To USA tweeted that even Pakistan receives this bailout it will be not be used to repay Chinese debt rather it will be used to service the current.

I believe there was a segment on Geo yesterday in which it was claimed that I had said there was no option except going to IMF! Absolutely false news. I had said no option including IMF is ruled out. I have said the same thing many times before and after elections

Asad Umar who is expected to be the new Finance Minister indicated that option of bailout from IMF is not ruled out.

Some social media users are suggesting that rather than going for loan from IMF every Pakistani should pay Rs. 1000 to help the economy.

But kindly keep #IMF as last option to go after everything else has been exhausted including asking for remittances from Pakistanis abroad.
If about 7 mln overseas Pakistanis remit 1000 USD to their families it would bring 7 BUSD in our banks to kickstart our depleting economy.

— Azhar Panni (@AzharPanni) July 30, 2018

Another user said that if overseas Pakistanis send remittance in US dollars than $ 7 Billion can be injected in the economy without IMF loan.

Before we go to the #imf has the #finance #economic think team considered #domestic revenue expansion tapping? Debt is not an option. Imagine we dont have that as an option & act. Tax, repriotise expenditure reduce, collect accrued non payments etc
