Islamabad – Renowned Urdu language poetess, writer and editor Samina Rajor has passed away here on Tuesday at the age of 51 due to prolonged illness. The deceased was suffering from cancer from the last several years. The funeral prayer of Samina will be held today after Zohr prayers near her residence located at House No 53, Street No 96, Sector I-8/4.
The deceased has left behind three sons. She was the well known translator, educationist and broadcaster of Pakistan. Raja was born on September 11, 1961 in Rahim Yar Khan.
Samina got her Master’s degree in Urdu Literature from the University of Punjab, Lahore and began writing poetry in 1973. As many as 12 books of her poetry have been published by now, two Kulliyat and one selection of romantic poetry.
She also worked in National Book Foundation as a consultant and was appointed as the editor of monthly Kitab in 1998. As a media person, she conducted several All Pakistan Mushairas since 1995 on Pakistan Television (PTV).
