The cost of University Road Project has reached 1.3 Billion after an increase of Rs. 63 Crore by Sindh Government because of tasks being added in the project.
It is being said that previously the budget was passed without the consideration of changing sewerage and water lines but it has been decided that they should also be changed with an additional cost of 27 crore. Another 20 crore was added in the cost to build service roads.
Initially the project of building the University road from NED University to Safoora Chowrangi was given at a cost of Rs. 83 Crore. The summary of increase has been sent to Sindh government, confirmed the project manager Sami Khan.
Similarly the cost of the construction of road from Nipa to Hassan Square will also reach 1 billion. Such increase means that the initial tenders submitted by constructors were manipulated to get the project and after start of the project they increase the cost to gain as much as possible.
Another problem in these construction projects of Karachi has been the delay and traffic jams which is causing troubles for the citizens. The construction work on Shahrah-e-Faisal and University road were started on December last year but after 4 months they have not been completed.
