Travelling is among those excuses during which Allah allowed us to not fast during the month of Ramazan just like a sick or a pregnant women is allowed to not fast during Ramazan. This means a traveler can skip fasting in Ramazan.
Dr. Zakir Naik was asked about the Islamic ruling on fasting during Ramazan to which he clarified that Islam gives traveler a choice. A traveler can fast during the journey or if he wants he can skip the fast, but if the journey is easy then keeping the fast is better.
and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Sawm (fasts) must be made up] from other days”[al-Baqarah 2:185]
Mufti Akmal also said the same but further explained that not every journey will be classified as a journey, rather it will only be considered a journey if it meets certain criteria such as distance.
If someone starts his journey after the sun rise then he is obliged to keep his fast because the concession of not fasting starts only after the start of the journey.
