Bio-Medical Engineering is all about bridging medicine and technology. A biomedical Engineer is one who has the knowledge of the Engineering principles and the various systems in human body and their complete functionality and he also know how to use them both in combination to develop instruments that will help in diagnosis of certain fatal diseases and targeting certain toxins that are creating harm to life.
As a Biomedical Engineer a person should have the know how of what problem the doctors and researchers are facing in order to measure a parameter from human body and for that he should have the following traits, Firstly he/she should figure out where the problem lies and what is the demand of the doctor or a scientist. Secondly, He should have good communication and interpersonal skills so as to perform the task as required. Furthermore he/she should have a sufficient knowledge of Body mechanics, Computational skills, Electronics and Medical devices in order to design the particular instrument that is in need. Good decision making and problem solving strategies and creative thinking are the most important qualities of a Bio-Medical Engineer and without them he cannot proceed in the field.
Decision making depends on how a Bio-Medical Engineer is planning to achieve his task therefore he should also have the knowledge of management which tells that unless you have a good plan you cannot achieve your desired outcome. After planning it come to how that person is organizing, leading and controlling the environment around him/her and dealing with the uncertainties in such a way so that the ultimate goal is accomplished.
Vision is another valuable asset of an Engineer’s personality to execute the projects assigned to him and honesty and sincerity are the very old important pillars on which it all depends. The aggressiveness towards problem solving and the ambitious attitude is what is essential.
Therefore, the above mentioned qualities and traits are considered as major strengths of a Bio-Medical Engineer and it relies on the person how well he can use them for the betterment of the society.
