Jeddah: (Muhammad Adeel) Pakistan is yearly producing 1.75 million ton mangos and Pakistan is the sixth-largest producer of mangoes in the world. This year Pakistan’s mango export target was 1, 25000 tons but due to COVID-19 pandemic the mango export target was set to 80,000 ton and due to aggressive strategy, Pakistan has achieved 45,000 tons.
In this COVID-19 pandemic year, Pakistan has export 7000+ metric tons to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is the second-largest exporter of mangoes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Consul general of Pakistan in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Khalid Majid expressed his views on the occasion of the Mango testing festival last night at the residence of the Consul General of Pakistan.
Different varieties of Pakistani Mangoes, like Sindhri, Chaunsa, Anwar Ratol, and Langra were showcased and tasted by a wide diaspora of invitees that included Arab dignitaries, and diplomats.
Earlier, while welcoming the guests, Consul General Khalid Majid told the audience that Pakistan is the second-largest exporter of Mangoes in Saudi Arabia and all nationalities in the Arab region like sweetness and aroma of Pakistani Mangoes.
The Mango season starts from May to the end of October but due to COVID-19 and suspension of international flights, Pakistani Mangoes was launched in the Arab region from June 2020.
Assorted Mango dishes including slices of mango pulp, Milkshake/smoothies, Ice cream, and Cake with Mango taste were put on display.
Participants at the event deeply appreciated the Consulate General’s ‘mango diplomacy’ and efforts of promoting the soft image of Pakistan, which they hoped will open new vistas for promoting trade links between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The level of participation was kept limited in compliance with the local restrictions associated with the COVID-19 related precautionary measures. The event was widely covered by Saudi and Pakistani media.
