Karachi: Ameer Jamaat-e Islami Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mehanti has said that the target killers have complete support of the government that have continued murdering the innocent people even in the holy month of Ramadan and if the perpetrators that carried May 12 carnage were taken to task, the situation could have changed then. The government should arrest the murderers of JI officer Abdul Rasheed Farooqui and the Supreme Court of Pakistan should once again take Suo Motto notice of ongoing target killings in the city. He was addressing a protest rally at the Akbari Masjid in New Karachi yesterday after Friday congregation to voice against the killing of the citizens and JI workers and officers.
JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui, District Central Ameer Farooque Naimatullah and JI Karachi Zone Ameer Ahmar Khan also addressed. The protestors had held placards in their hands that carried marks of condemnation and demands for immediate arrest of killers of Farooqui.
Mahenti said that the JI was aggrieved on brutal murder of Farooqui, which had been escalated due to failure of the government to arrest his killers. He said that the city had been gripped with the lawlessness for the last 25 years and no one in the city was safe. The citizens have been left at the mercy of the target killers and extortionists. He said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had in previous Ramadan taken Suo Motto notice of the target killings in the city and had given orders to the authorities concerned for the maintenance of law and order but the authorities had failed to comply to those orders. The political parties in the coalition assured the government that there would be no further killing in the city but the situation proved more vulnerable the following day.
He said that JI workers have been killed one after another but the perpetrators should keep in their minds that Ji would not back from its principled stances. He invited all the political parties to stand united against the target killings and extortion. He demanded the government should resign on its failure to protect the life and property of the citizens.
