Artificially sweetened drinks can double the risk of obesity in newly born children, reveals a new study by National Institutes of Health.
Soft Drinks & Soda Drinks are widely consumed by women during pregnancy but it increases the risk of obesity in children. The study was based on women who had gestational diabetes, it is diabetes which only occurs during pregnancy.
Women who avoided such drinks had lower risk of obese children, while women who consumed soda drinks increased the chances by 60%. After the study was published pregnant women are being recommended to stop drinking such drinks.
They also found that such sweetened drinks can also cause premature birth, which affects the growth of the child in the future.
The study was based on data of 60,000 women, but the researcher claimed that further study is required to build a stronger case and to know the exact details and effects of such artificial drinks.
Another study in UK also linked soft drinks with artery blockage and higher blood pressure. The common thing in all these studies is that soft drinks are not healthy.
