Lahore: The two most experienced players of Pakistan Hockey Sohail Abbas and Rehan Butt have been dropped from the training camp, set up for Hockey Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in December this year in Melbourne, due to the decline in performance of both veteran players.
Following the missing out of penalty corner specialist, team management dropped the captain as well and the place for captaincy is vacant yet. Goal keeper Salman Akbar has again failed to grab the attention of selectors while former skipper Mohammad Imran and Waseem Ahmed who withdraws retirement, have been included in 28 men squad for the mega event.
The training camp for the mega tournament is planned to begin from 1st November. The management eyes to give fresh legs maximum chances but also believes that senior players could still play an important role in team’s progress.
